Aaron Bobb, raised in a rural setting in Spotsylvania, VA, moved to Richmond, VA in 2012 to study craft and materials studies at Virginia Commonwealth University. The shift from country to urban living made Aaron hyper aware of his interest in and desire for empathy. Inspired by this discovery, he explores people’s capacity for empathy, specifically trying to facilitate empathic reactions through his art. Aaron is interested in the semiotics of emotions and expresses this in this work by using signifiers that represent root emotions, such as happy, sad, angry, or scared. His use of these simple signifiers allows viewers to see Aaron’s art through their own personal narratives. He makes his work more accessible through humor.
